Project Statement (2023- )
Un/Broken is my on-going exploration to bridge the making of an image into the making of an object. My previous photographic prints — abstractions of natural and manmade environments — become both my tool and my medium.
I cut, stack, tear, punch, weave, scratch and shred my previous work, animating the process of deconstruction. By physically manipulating my prints I create fragments that then form a basis for re-assembled compositions. These abstract constructions, inspired by geometric form and repetition, emphasize a relationship between order and chaos.
The meticulously re-assembled pieces become the foundational elements of my visual communication — in essence, formulating a unique language informed by shape, color and line. My process ultimately leads me to a space of deep tranquility and personal contemplation about the perennial cycles of nature as one of consistent transformation. My intention, through my process of re-invigorating the past into a fresh future, is to offer a hopeful metaphor in which each end is a new beginning.
