Project Statement (2023- )

Challenging convention is a critical part of my photographic work. Un/Broken is the result of exploring the transformation of image into object. In this series my photographic prints become both my tool and my medium. I cut, stack, tear, punch, weave, scratch and shred previous prints of abstracted renditions of natural elements, to construct new compositions.

My process is one of fabrication. By physically manipulating my prints I create fragments that form the basis for reassembly into newly constructed forms. This meticulous process opens to a contemplative mind space that clears the way for innovation and experimentation. I photograph these forms which then become the foundation for a unique visual language informed by shape, color and line.

Inspired by geometric form and repetition I arrange my new constructions into abstractions that emphasize a relationship between order and chaos, eliciting personal reflections on the unbroken cyclical nature of the eternal. This orchestration yields objects that re-interpret meaning, expand vision, and reinvigorate the past into a new future. Through these pieces, I hope to create an opening for the viewer that reveals the end as a new beginning.
