Project Statement (2020-

This series is an invitation into my personal world. I use the contents of my home to explore the process of discovery that emerges when we observe closely—what we see from afar may not be what we see when we move closer. It is the movement between these scales of experience that interests me.

I work by constructing images out of multiple photographs taken from a specific location inside my home—the contents of a drawer, a medicine cabinet, a bookshelf. I arrange the photographs from each location by connecting forms, juxtaposing colour and using repetition in ways that emphasize a sense of rhythm and harmony between the individual pieces.

The titles reflect my own relationship to the objects themselves—books suggest the issues I contemplate, hard drives the nature of memory, vintage DVDs the strength of attachment, food the desire for security. They also aim to engage the viewer in a conversation with the images by posing questions that invite self-reflection.

It is my hope that when the viewer crosses the threshold between far and near—when the abstract becomes real—they too will experience a moment of discovery upon suddenly recognising what has been in front of them all along.
